The official AQSG talkback for those that have seen the movie. I added a Spoilers notation at the top to keep away those that don't want to know anything until they see it.

I have a buddy that manages a movie theater and he let Heather and I watch the new movie on Tuesday at a midnight showing when all the local movie critics got to watch it.

Trek is back folks and I was glad to see that Nimoy had such a prominent role.  The time travel aspect  was a cool idea and the movie answered a lot of questions about how the crew first came together..

I would not be surprised to see a few sequels down the road...

I just saw it last night and I was overwhelmed by it. The story was indeed great and Star Trek is indeed back. The liberties that JJ took were very gutsy, but he was nice enough in the movie to tell you what was happening and that this is indeed a new universe. Tying the original canon into the movie was great, along with many of the little homages to traditional Trek elements, including the Koybiasho Maru and the number 47. Rehashing a ton of quotes from the original 6 movies and TOS helped plug it all right back in.

I hope Paramount decides to do more and that JJ will stick on for as long as possible.

According to IMDB.com JJ is already involved with another Trek movie! *Dances*

I had the chance to see this on IMAX! Oh my God! Best Trek movie ever! It was amazing! They paid homage to the classic's... Chris pine NAILED kirk!

Macoy was perfect too.

Like my father said, we knew Pine had nailed Kirk when they were in the bar, and four guys were telling him that there were four of them, and one of him. He told them to go find a couple more guys to make it an even fight! LOL

They've done their job! They keep this up Star Trek is comming back! The new generation will jump on!

While I hope Trek gets the shot in the arm it deserves I was actually in the hater camp on this one.  I'll spare you the rant, but I thought it not only completely missed anything Trek, but also was a bad movie as a movie.  It moved fast enough I was suitably distracted from its badness the whole way through, but I had a genuine, negative visceral reaction afterwards.  I begrudge no one their positive opinions, I'm glad so many enjoyed it.  I did think that Karl Urban was a great McCoy, but everyone was miswritten overall.  I was looking forward to Simon Pegg being Scotty, and I ended up despising the portrayal the most of any character.  Most disappointed in the long run.

You truly can't go home again.

That said, I'm in favor of the AQSG hosting a JJ Trek sim, if anyone gets one going.  Might be a popular offering.  Quite a lot of folks did like it.

Have to agree with you as a whole. There were a few bright spots though. Tyler Perry as the Federation President and Bruce Greenwood did Captain Pike justice.

The kid who played Chekov was good (even if he was hard to understand most of the time).
